“This book has been written with a broad interest in the legal issues of buildings and the built environment. I was looking for a helpful and clear legal textbook that would best help me in the office, on site and to administer a project. After failing to find a suitable book, I decided to compile a guide of the most relevant legal issues of professional practice. It is acknowledged that the inclusion and exclusion of legal issues for architects is subjective. Given the limitation in size of the book, a careful balance has been sought between the range and depth of information an architect may need. This book does not attempt to give exhaustive analysis of the law and
does not claim to be the basis of a single interpretation or an authority of the law. I have included references for those who wish to seek further information. However, anyone seeking legal advice should contact a solicitor or barrister. I have endeavoured to state the law as at 31st January 2011. The law generally covers England and Wales.”From Matthew Cousins – author of Architect’s Legal Pocket Book. This new title from Architectural Press is publishing on May 25th. Customer review -

“This I have found to be a good practical book that is just what I needed to refer to.
It is a great help in explaining how systems work and what they actually do and covers such a vast range, I found the book to be well put together and easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone in the building trade or any subsidiary services involved with building inspecting.”

“This book has been a constant desk fellow of mine throughout my architectural education and work in practice.

Inside is a well considered series of chapters documenting the day to day considerations when working in the construction industry. As a quick reference supplement to my working this title has been invaluable. The problem with any architectural resource is that the industry is constantly in motion and information is constantly updated.

It is a constant battle to try and keep up with the most recent changes to policy and regulation. Which is why i point out that this book is a supplementary guide and not a bible. It does not cover a lot of the specialisms that are encountered in regard to modern day construction. That said, the portability, detailed diagrams and extensive references make this book stand out amongst similar titles.

Having long owned a copy of the previous edition, the revised edition of the Architects Pocket Book doesn’t seem to contain a significant change in content. As the previous review points out, there appears to be only 5 extra pages. Therefore if you already own a copy of the 3rd, I wouldn’t see the absolute need in purchasing this new edition, provided you are pragmatic about the information inside.

But for anyone new to the subject or thinking of finding a suitable quick reference, then here undoubtedly is your place to start.”
